Geometric Animal Illustration

You can start with this- a geometric design as your guide

Or you can start with this- a photograph of your chosen animal as your guide

But in the end, you are to re-create your own geometric animal design. You can create your own colour pallet, but try to keep the shape and contours of the animal.
Also, find a simple background to bring in and re-draw for the over all design.

Spirit Animal with Illustrator

Re-draw/trace a Pacific Northwest Indigenous spirit animal using the Adobe Illustrator pen tool.

• Look through the images below.
• Select a spirit animal that interests you- if you are a beginner, keep it super simple.
• Right click -"SAVE AS" Select your student file to save it to your # folder. (Create a new folder for Computer Arts, put it in there).
• The open Illustrator.
• Create a NEW Document.
• Select a PRINT Document. Letter sized file. TITLE it "Spirit Animal"
• "FILE" - "PLACE" - your image into Illustrator- Browse for the image file in your student folder.
• Click on the page to insert the image.
• Use the SELECT TOOL(black arrow) to select and move the image onto the page.
• The SELECT TOOL can also size the image. If you click on a corner and hold SHIFT to keep proportions. Prevents from stretching and squishing.
• Open the LAYERS panel- look on the WINDOWS tab on the top drop down menu. Or type "F7".
• CLICK 2 times on the image layer- should open a new panel.
• NAME the layer "Animal"
• Select "TEMPLATE" and click OK
• Create a NEW LAYER- click on the "Create New Layer" Icon. (See image 1-1)

• Title the layer Drawing
• Now select the PEN TOOL and start to outline shapes.
• Make sure to complete shapes full circle- back to where you began.
• For curved lines, click and drag while you are still clicking with the PEN tool.
• The white fill will automatically block the image. Select the "NONE/NO FILL" icon on the tool bar.

• Select a STROKE colour for now and fill it later....

It is be a good idea to create a new layer for each over lapping shape- easier to maneuver later when you fill it.

Colour it in afterwards.

Type the interpretation below your drawing. Use the "T" text tool. Drag a box where you want to type it. Select the font and size WINDOW- TYPE- CHARACTER to open type window.

Photoshop Clipping Mask Tutorial: Making a Banner for your blog

1: Clipping Masks for Typography

Step One: Create a new document in Photoshop. If your document is going to be used on the web, I recommend setting the resolution to “72.” Next, type out your Name. I chose “HELLO” to keep things simple, but you could also use this tutorial for blog headers, as text to lay on top of photos in posts, etc! For a banner, you create the document as a custom size 1000 x 300 pixels at 72 resolution. Long and skinny. 

Make your text BIG and BOLD. Use the option menu on the top of the page to set your font style, size, boldness...

Step Two: 
Find an image on Pexel. Select an image that you like and save the image to your folder. Open the image in Photoshop. Select All (or CTR A). Then Copy (or CTR C) and Paste (or CTR V) the image onto your file into the new layer. Then, when you create a clipping mask, your words will take on the effect of the image you’re using, which makes my words look gold!

OR

Create a new layer ON TOP OF your text layer. You can create a new layer either by going to Layer >> New >> Layer (in the top menu) OR by clicking the thing that looks like a piece of paper next to the trash can in the bottom right of your layers panel. Your new layer will be blank (white). If you can't see the Layer panel, then click f7 on your keyboard.

Step Two A: You can draw whatever you want in that new layer. I chose to draw some colorful scribbles using the brush tool.

Step Three: Make sure your new layer is highlighted in the layers panel (like mine is). Then, go to Layer >> Create Clipping Mask. A shortcut is to hover between your two layers (in the layers panel) with your cursor while holding down the option key (on a Mac). You’ll see a little arrow pop up and when you click, it will create a clipping mask.

Step Four: Admire your work.

Step Five: Post your heading to your blog: find the LAYOUT tab- click on HEADER- and then EDIT- Then remove heading insert instead of Blog title and description. Browse for your image. SAVE.

Animate/Flash: Create Basic Motion Tween

Learn how to use Motion Tween:

Steps to follow:

• Open a new flash file (Ctrl+N).
  New Document window will appear
  Select General panel and choose Type: Flash Document . Press OK.
• If your timeline window is not open, press (Ctrl+Alt+T).
• Now you can see a single Layer called "Layer1" in your timeline Window.
  
  
• Title Layer 1, "Ball"(click on layer title to change name)
• Select the first frame. Draw your image on the stage; you can either choose Rectangular tool or Oval tool from the tool box and draw your desired shape.
• Select your object on the stage and press F8 to convert this image to a Symbol (or right click "Convert to Symbol"). Convert to Symbol window will pop-up.
  Name your Symbol what ever you like.
  Select Graphic behavior and press OK.
• Your Symbol is in frame1 of Ball layer. Select frame 20 and press F5 to insert a new Frame (or right click "Frame")
• Select any frame between, 2 to 19, then right click select "Motion Tween". Now your Layer will look something like the one shown below. 
• Still keeping playhead on frame 20, move your Symbol to any other position other than the present one. A key frame will magically appear on the timeline to indicate a change in movement.
  
  
• Now press (Ctrl+Enter) to view your motion tween.
